Background

Menopause is the point at which a woman stops ovulating and menstruation ceases, indicating the end of fertility. Menopause is not a disease, but a natural progression in life, similar to puberty. As a normal, natural event, menopause is usually confirmed when a woman has not had a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. Most women experience menopause between the ages of 40 and 58, with the average at about age 51. Some woman reach menopause as early as their 30’s and a few in their 60’s. All women experience menopause, but in a unique and individual way. During this transition period, there are several stages that a woman’s body goes through to indicate that fertility is coming to an end.

Peri Menopause
Many years before a woman stops ovulating, her ovaries slow the production of the hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, which results in decreased levels in the blood. This transition lasts up to 6 years or more and occurs immediately prior to natural menopause when changes begin, plus 1 year after menopause. Peri menopause is the time when your body is preparing to cease fertility.
